Nottingham Castle Glassware Collection. NEW Catchfly Flower Design

28th February 2022

Nottingham Castle is now stocking my recently commissioned collection of glassware, designed exclusively for them. It is inspired by the beautiful Nottingham Catchfly Flower, the county’s native plant. Nottingham Catchfly has been being re-introduced to the Castle by volunteers in an exciting 2020 lockdown project. The etched glassware collection features a design depicting the Catchfly Flower from seeding to bud to bloom.

Collection Highlights

The glassware includes a carafe with cork stopper, goblet wine glasses as well as plant pot shaped tumblers. Glassware sales help support the work of this heritage attraction. Shop online for delivery or collection in person from the Castle.

Being from Nottingham, it’s a real honour to have designed an exclusive collection for my home town’s famous landmark. Most of my designs are floral so this is the perfect collaboration.

Emma Britton - Nottingham Catchfly Flower Glassware Collection

The first mention of the Catchfly wildflower in Nottingham was from botanist John Ray in 1669 to the naturalist Martin Lister.  Ray asked Lister to give his thoughts on the plant, found on Nottingham Castle’s walls. The castle was first built in 1068 by William the Conqueror. It has been part of the city and the county’s history ever since.

About Nottingham Castle

The Castle recently underwent a £30m conservation, renovation, and redevelopment which has transformed the visitor experience and made it relevant for modern times.  The Catchfly glassware designed by Emma is available to buy exclusively from the new Nottingham Castle Gift Shop and online soon.

Sow some Nottingham Catchfly Flower Seeds!

To complement the glassware, Catchfly seeds can also be purchased from Nottingham Castle shop. Bring a little bit of Catchfly magic into your own garden as well as onto your table!

Other exclusive design commissions:

Other exclusive glassware design include ‘Iris’ and ‘Snowdrop’ patterns for the Royal Horticultural Society.  These designs have been hugely popular with flower lovers visiting RHS gardens.
