How To Sleep Better on Warm Summer Nights

On these balmy and light-filled evenings, try some gentle rituals to help you drift off and sleep better on summer nights.
First up! Give your body a little hydration with a sip or two of water from Emma’s bedside carafe & glass set. It’s a handy size that won’t take up lots of space and the little glass stacks neatly on top. Keep it in reach in case you’re wakeful. This beautiful bedside glassware in Emma’s Silver Birch pattern is etch decorated and hand finished at her Derbyshire studio. Look out for these sets in new designs coming soon.
But to help you sleep even more soundly on warm nights, founder of Norfolk Natural Living, Bella Middleton, has given us some of her favourite routines and natural remedies you can try too. Bella has included some wonderful Norfolk Natural Living products she’s created, and other suggestions for a more peaceful night.
Nature and craftsmanship are at the heart of Norfolk Natural Living products, each one is carefully handcrafted, using only natural ingredients combined with therapeutic blends, all designed to enhance your wellbeing.
Before some of Bella’s recommendations, you might be interested to know why it’s harder to sleep when the nights warm up. Bella explains:
‘Our bodies rely on melatonin to signal when it’s time to sleep, but longer evenings and more light can suppress melatonin production. This means you might stay awake later than you’d like and combined with the heat, rest can be more restless!’
Try a Pillow Mist
The right fragrance can help your mind and body relax and become a soothing bedtime ritual. Norfolk Natural Living’s Pillow Mist is a blend of 100% pure essential oils and always helps me wind down after a busy day. Lightly spritz your pillow and give your body the signal it’s time to rest.
Essential Oils for Dreamy Nights
Lavender is celebrated for being able to take your body into the deep sleep stage which is truly restorative. Peppermint is another lovely option for clearing your head and helping with allergies. Diffusing peppermint oil can also help you breathe more comfortably.
Try adding a few drops of essential oils into a warm bath that will help soothe away the day and prepare your mind and body for a restful night.
Other sleep supporting oils I really like include Roman Chamomile, Sandalwood and Lemon.
Magnesium Magic
A new must for my night-time routine is Magnesium Mist. A few sprays on tired legs or shoulders before bed can work wonders. Magnesium is known for its ability to relax muscles and ease tension, it makes me feel more settled.
Mindful Routines
Try and avoid caffeine after midday and eat a bit earlier in the evening when you can. Go screen free an hour or so before going to sleep. This means the blue light from devices won’t interfere with your body’s natural wind down process. Treat yourself to a bath perhaps – why not create a bathroom sanctuary with beautiful and soothing Emma Britton glass splashbacks like this project with bespoke wisteria wall panels for an enveloping experience time and again.
Read a book or play some gentle music – make your bedtime routine into something you enjoy and feel relaxed by.
