Creating a Bathroom Sanctuary: Case Study

Emma-Britton-Bespoke-Glass-Bathroom-Panels

Creating a modern bathroom sanctuary in a classic Georgian property was a designers dream for this whole house renovation project in popular Brancaster, Norfolk.  Commissioning Emma Britton was an easy choice for these previous clients who wanted a series of striking glass art panels and a shower screen for their beautiful bathroom. The results are stunning and with no attention to detail spared anywhere in this gorgeous home renovation, this was a very special project indeed.

Bathroom Sanctuary Brief

The brief was to create artwork for the bathroom that fitted the sophisticated design of the space. Unlike paintings and framed photographs, glass won’t succumb to moisture. This makes it the ideal material for bathroom design features and artwork. It will stay looking good for as long as its in place.

Identifying a soft and subtle colour palette from the outset helped lead the look and feel of the glass design for this bathroom. Importantly, the design had to create the feeling of a sanctuary to really unwind in. As well as being contemporary and elegant.

Sitting between two light filled windows was just the space in which to site the glass art panels. As the first wall seen upon entering the room, it was the natural choice, setting the tone of the space from the first encounter. The rectangular dimensions drew Emma to creating a triptych of glass panels for interest. Including these little breaks in the design created added softness and transparency for that bathroom sanctuary feel.

Design Details

Wisteria covers the front of this wonderful Georgian house which is the home of this beautiful bathroom (…the kind we are all obsessed with from Bridgerton). Bringing in the Wisteria as the featured imagery to create the right ambience in this space proved the perfect design decision.

Emma hand drew the Wisteria that can be seen leaping from panel to panel. She drew from life and a series of stunning photographs. Etched onto each of the triptych elements is Emma’s beautiful design. The hand painted real silver and 22 carat gold details have created something extra special. The shower panel also features hand-painted silver elements to create glamour and soft sparkle, especially when teemed with the lighting.

Stand off mounted to the wall, the art panels provide just the right amount of wow for a classy upmarket bathroom. Further complemented by the choice of wall colour. A more than perfect backdrop for these glass works of art.

It was a joy to work with Emma on this project. Her attention to detail not only on the artwork but on the final finishes and fixings reassured us that we were getting a fantastic result. Thank you so much for creating such amazing glass pieces for our house. The shower screen looks perfect and the triptych is just beautiful; more stunning than we could have imagined even with the mock up and samples you provided.

Emma enjoys site-specific work which is an important part of the design process in almost all of her bespoke commissions. The glass splashback for this kitchen project in Scotland is a lovely example. Working closely with her clients, Emma creates artwork to reflect the property and the people that bring life to it. The results for this bathroom project really do live up to that statement.

Good to know

The clients in this case study are previous patrons of Emma’s work, choosing her vibrant Sweetpea splashback for their teenage daughter’s en-suite. As part of this complete house renovation project Emma also designed a small kitchen hob splashback. This now prevents steam damage to the surrounding wooden panels.

The kitchen splashback looks great and protects the wood without hiding it.

Emma provided a full installation service for the glass art panels, shower screen and kitchen splashback for a professional finish. These wonderful clients also own a number of pieces from Emma’s popular glassware collections
