Archive Collection - Celebrating International Women's Day

8th March 2022

Launched to celebrate International Women’s Day and 12 years of my female founded business, my Archive Collection

The pieces unveiled today from this collection were all made by me when I was just starting out with the idea of putting pattern onto glass differently. To make splashbacks both pretty and practical with my signature floral style. Along with homeware for people to use and enjoy everyday. They are a selection of hand printed and dyed, glass encapsulated works and demonstrate the timelessness and longevity of my aesthetic.

Special Archive Collection – for International Women’s Day

My Archive Collection is a limited selection of seven one-off hand-printed and hand-made items. Use them as worktop savers, mats and table centre pieces. You’ll have to be quick if you want one!

Letting these treasured pieces go out into the world means more space on my studio shelves for all the exciting things due in 2023. Stay tuned. I hope you enjoy them.

Here’s more on the story of my female founded business:

I graduated in a recession with a degree in Printed Textiles and instead of working in textiles I took a job in the glass industry. It was meant to be, I learned a lot and ended up starting Emma Britton Decorative Glass Designer in 2010.

Seeing the glass industry first hand, I realised the potential for this practical material to be more beautiful and versatile, and saw an opportunity to put pattern onto glass differently. I knew I could create something pretty and practical, still my design mantra for Splashbacks and Glassware Collections today.

The business was founded on my Floral Glass Splashbacks, loved for their combination of beauty and practicality. My signature glass style was something previously unseen. The business has grown and I now have 6 design collections and bespoke Splashbacks. Still beautifully unique and coveted. I still design everything by hand.

As my reputation as a designer glass Splashback brand grew, moving into decorative glassware was a natural step in 2015. In 2020, everything came in house to create my studio etched and hand finished glassware.  People love it, clients now include Chatsworth, the RHS and National Trust.

At the time of starting Emma Britton Decorative Glass Designer in 2010 it was really just me. But now I have a small award winning team that on the female front includes:

  • Olivia my Studio Assistant
  • Helen my Marketing Manager
  • Alison my amazing PR
  • Anita looking after my accounts

As a small award winning team we can add the personal touch to everything we do. From initial design, through to a completed Splashback. A perfect drinks glass, conversation over the telephone to help you pick the right present or a design consultation.

Final Word

Female founded businesses like mine – Emma Britton Decorative Glass Designer – are flourishing and around a fifth of all new companies in 2022 were founded by women. This is good news, but female entrepreneurs still need more support. Only 2p in every £1 of seed funding went to all-female founding teams in 2022. 85p in the £1 went to all male founding teams.
