A Home For Every Plant: Wonders of the Botanical World

2nd July 2023

A Home For Every Plant Book

‘A Home For Every Plant” Wonders of the Botanical World’ is a beautiful new book by Writer, Broadcaster and RHS Judge, Matthew Biggs, who also regularly features on BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time.

‘A Home for Every Plant’ is an absolute joy to read, especially as a designer who takes so much inspiration from flowers and plants in a design sense. Their shapes, petals and leaves, natural colours and forms all inspire my work and style – this book has certainly opened my eyes to some exotic and humble plants, new and familiar.

Matthew has always been so supportive of my Emma Britton business, work and design style, even answering gardening conudurums for my customers in 2020 to celebrate the launch of my HomeGrown Collection. So it is a privilege to showcase his latest publication here on the Journal with this overview:

A Home For Every Plant: Wonders of The Botanical World

Without plants there would be no life on Earth, but there’s a lot of blindness as to their real impact that this book sets out to cure. It introduces 66 amazing plants from the six major climactic zones around the world. You get to journey across 40 incredible habitats and discover the biggest and boldest, right through to the stinkiest plants.  From the smelly Titan Arum of the Indonesian Rainforest to vital bog plants and how to care for plants at home, all beautifully illustrated.

‘A Home for Every Plant’ is really thorough, informed by all of Matthew’s amazing expertise and knowledge accumulated over many years, as well as that of botanists from across the world and scientific papers. It makes for a fascinating and varied read. The tone is however enjoyable and accessible, designed to inspire us all to love and care for the plants around us.

On the book Matthew says:

A Home For Every Plant – Wonders of the Botanical World’ reveals the secrets of some of the most extraordinary plants from around the globe, from mountain tops to the sea. Filled with fascinating facts and colourful illustrations, you will find this book irresistible – whatever your age.

The book is intended to capture the imaginations of children aged 6 – 10. But honestly, it is the perfect compendium for plant-lovers, budding gardeners, would-be botanists and nature-lovers alike of any age.

Hope you enjoy this wonderful book. Do go and get yourself a copy, let it feed your imagination and take you to new places, as it has me.

This isn’t the first time we’ve featured Matthew on the Journal. In 2020 he kindly solved gardening conundrums for my customers in celebration of launching my HomeGrown Collection. We published all the questions and answers and  you can still read them here.
