If you’re working on the design of a new kitchen, here’s a handy kitchen planning checklist full of Emma’s top tips to consider whilst you’re making decisions about layout, look and at what point to consider your decorative glass splashback.

Read on for some handy hints and a downloadable checklist, and get in touch for an informal splashback design chat at any time. It’s so much fun choosing your perfect design or working on a bespoke splashback commission with Emma.

Involve Emma from the outset of your new kitchen planning process about how to include her splashbacks. Thinking about your splashback when you embark on refreshing the look for your kitchen means you can budget for your dream pick as part of the overall design and build.

It is of course possible to consider the inclusion of your splashback at other points in the new kitchen design process, but do have a think from the beginning as to whether you want an upstand with your splashback, for example, or not. And where your walls might need protecting most, depending on what kind of cook you are! Download this handy tick list you’ll find at the back of our inspiring guide to creating a stylish kitchen.

Do feel free to call for an informal chat about how an Emma Britton splashback design can look with your proposed new kitchen. I’m always so happy to give you advice to help you work out the best fit aesthetically, suited to your budget.

Create a moodboard of all the kitchens you like. You can organise them by theme with Pinterest or cut and stick your favourites. Do take a look at my boards for inspiration. Dream big, ideas can be interpreted to suit your budget.

Think about what you really want, what is non-negotiable and what is nice to have? Like a hot water tap, decorative glass splashback, Everhot Cooker, or quartz worktops?

Decide on your budget. Get some quotes – don’t forget to explore independent kitchen showrooms that aren’t always more expensive and can be great overall value for money.

Choose your kitchen designer or builder. Pick someone who really understands your needs and that you feel you can work with. A new kitchen is a big project so a good relationship that has natural synergy is crucial.

In terms of your Emma Britton splashback, you can rest assured you’re in safe hands if we install your design.  As an independent brand I only work with a select team of friendly and skilled fitters I’ve personally hand-picked. Polite and respectful, they’ll ensure a hassle free, professional splashback installation experience and great results. They’re highly experienced, helping me win 10 consecutive awards for customer service from leading interiors platform, Houzz.

Then…

When you have an overall design, your kitchen designer will be able to advise you on whether any of your key services need to be moved. You might need help from a builder, plumber or electrician. Fully fitted kitchen companies sometimes project manage these aspects for you and charge accordingly.

Once you have your kitchen design sorted you can think about the flooring, splashbacks, cabinet and paint colours.

Emma’s recommendation: think about these aspects of your overall kitchen design as early in the process as you can. For splashbacks, decide if you need an upstand with them? In general, a splashback design looks better without as you get a neater fit with your worktop and more space for the design to breathe. Do you need to move any sockets or have taps fitted before or after for an easy splashback installation. This is the time when you make final tweaks to your overall kitchen design plan.

Hire your tradespeople or instruct your fitted kitchen company. Think about lead-times, so you can co-ordinate all the elements.

Once your dream kitchen is installed, live with it for a little while and then start adding in the fun bits, stylish touches and accessories for shelves, new tea towels, lamps, glassware for your cupboards, fun trays and more!
