Customer Splashback Project: Favourite Plants for Keen Gardeners
From the initial design phase through to making and installation, I take you through the process of creating a bespoke splashback for your room. Just like I did with Julie and Richard – for them, the end result is an original Emma Britton design featuring their favourite plants in a splashback they adore and a real celebration of flowers. Working with me directly means you’ll feel confident and happy about how your design will look at every stage.
I’m always happy to offer my advice without obligation before you embark on a bespoke splashback design with me, so please do get in touch. E: emma@emmabritton.net | T: +44 (0) 7565 300 065 (Mon-Fri: 9am-5pm).
I hope you enjoy reading all about this custom splashback I created for Julie and Richard, and their experience of commissioning me.
Please tell us a little bit about your home/interiors style and why you needed a splashback for your kitchen?
We enjoy commissioning items for our home, from furniture to fittings and also artwork. We had commissioned a kitchen to be made by a local joiner, but hadn’t made a decision on what to do with the wall behind the cooker and units.
Had you been looking for a splashback design you liked for a while before meeting Emma?
As mentioned above, we were just very undecided about what to put on the wall behind the cooker, but then we came across Emma’s work at a show in 2025. We were immediately drawn to it from across the showground! We knew straight away that this was what we wanted to complete our new kitchen.

Why did you choose an Emma Britton glass splashback over a finish like tiles, for example?
Emma’s splashback combines ease of cleaning and practicality with being able to commission a piece of artwork that is specific to us.
We opted for a bespoke splashback design because…
We love original artwork and this enabled us to have that within our kitchen. We’re also very keen gardeners and plant lovers and therefore it gave us the opportunity to include some of our favourite plants within the design and enjoy their presence all year round. Our wildlife pond that attracts dozens of frogs each spring for breeding and Emma was able to include a couple of frogs in the design. The design reflects our love for colour and brightens up our kitchen even on the dullest days.

How did Emma work with you to create your splashback, was it an enjoyable process?
We initially provided Emma with a list and photographs of many of our favourite plants. She then visited our house and garden to familiarise herself with our style and also to see some of the plants growing and photograph them for herself. Emma measured the area, and followed up at a later date with an accurate survey to ensure fitting would be a smooth process.
She then started to design the splashback, sending us update photographs every few days, enabling us to suggest changes or additions as it progressed. Emma was very patient with our feedback and she also chose which of our plants to include. Using her design skills she ensured a coherent piece of artwork.

Can you imagine not having found Emma to create a splashback for your kitchen?
If we’d not found Emma we feel the kitchen would be somewhat underwhelming – it really is the icing on the cake.

What does your bespoke kitchen splashback bring to your day to day?
Emma produced a beautiful, bespoke splashback to complement our new kitchen. This bespoke piece of art delights us every time we are in the room. We now have a vibrant reflection of our garden to enjoy year round in our kitchen. It is easy to keep clean which is always a bonus. We love our favourite plants splashback.
Anything else you’d like to say?
All in all we are really pleased we found Emma, and we could not be any happier with our finished splashback. Emma has since produced two lovely worktop savers for us using the same design but with a contrasting background. They really do complete the look.
EMMA’S DESIGNER NOTE:
Julie and Richard have a mid century style house, but their decorating style is contemporary. I wanted to make reference to this in the design and gave the splashback a bright seventies feel in order to bring in the variety of plants they wanted to include.
I love a design challenge and the diversity of flowers requested in this commission gave me that, and this beautiful aesthetic as a result. It was a real pleasure to be able to bring together all the elements Julie and Richard wanted in their unique artwork.
The kitchen has a huge window which looks out into the garden and over the pond, so I wanted the glass splashback to really feel like an extension of this view but in flower all year round. They are confident gardeners and have a beautiful garden – it was really fun to paint.
